George David Woehrl - In Memoriam Dear friends and fellow hawkers, a founding father of midwestern falconry, and the Great Lakes Falconer's Association passed recently. I thought it would be apropos to provide some notes from people that new him best. If you would like to add to this piece, please send me an email to the address below, and I will ensure that it is posted here. George Woehrl was a very interesting individual, intelligence beyond most peoples comprehension. When he got out of the Marines at the end of WW2,he felt he didn't have a good vocabulary,to carry on the type of conversations that really peaked his intrests. He spent months reading and studying the dictionary. He read anything and everything he could get his hands on during his adult life. Some of his days as a prisoner of the Japanese, took its toll on his tolerance throughout the years with varies things. He had a vivid love for Falconry and when he was active, spent hours looking after his birds. An acclaimed fine artist, with many of his works in private as well as places like the Chicago Art Museum collection. He was my dear friend and we keep our relationship going strong right until he had his last sickness. We talked at least once weekly, since I moved from Arlington Heights and as late as a year ago this coming November we met for lunch, when I was back visiting my family and friends.I'm proud to have known him for these past almost fifty years.May he rest in Peace,my regards to all in the GLFA. -Ed Fitch This pic was taken in Chicago circa 1962-63.
